Short answer

Start with the trip, not the postcard

Choose La Fortuna for broad adventure and hot springs, Monteverde for cloud forest and a cooler mountain stay, or Manuel Antonio for wildlife and beach in one busy corridor.

Choose the kind of ordinary day you want

La Fortuna supports a town, hot-springs or nature-lodge routine around Arenal. Monteverde puts a cloud-forest stay at the centre of the choice. Manuel Antonio combines a Pacific-coast base with a particular protected-area visit. A forest image does not make the three operationally equivalent. Compare your accommodation entrance, meals, booked activities and the final road before adding another base. Confirm protected-area booking rules with the relevant authority; a destination guide does not grant entry or promise a wildlife sighting.

Decision rules

Use these to break a tie

  1. Choose the primary ecosystem.
  2. Then compare transfer from the previous base.
  3. Build at least one weather-flex day.

Before you book

Three checks

  • Check official park entry systems.
  • Verify the final road to the property.
  • Confirm early transport for wildlife activities.

Make the day work

One experience, with room to enjoy it

Choose your base before an activity. Keep transfers, meals and the return journey in the plan, and check the exact option before paying.

Make the park a Manuel Antonio stay day

A guided wildlife walk fits a Quepos or Manuel Antonio base; it is not a short excursion from La Fortuna.

The title mentions a ticket option, but the inclusions say park admission is separate. Confirm the exact option in writing, official entry slot, meeting point and route access. Wildlife is never guaranteed.
